AS A child I loved making speeches and would practise in front of a full-length mirror we had at home. I was encouraged by my father who asked me to write speeches for him to deliver at business gatherings in Bombay. My uncle then asked me to write the speech he gave to a session of the Indian National Congress, where the audience included Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first prime minister. We did not know Nehru was dying; he died two weeks later. I was leaving school, having just turned 17. After that at college and for my university I was a keen debater. My speaking today includes speaking at dinners, sporting events, conferences and seminars on subjects ranging from sports to wider economic and political issues and also India.
